While sipping my morning coffee, I caught this past Sunday’s episode of “The Simpsons” entitled “22 for 30” (Incidentally, I’m a fan of ESPN’s “30 for 30”, which this spoofed. I’m a huge documentary nerd). In the opening minutes, we see a montage of Bart, stuck in detention, shooing crumpled wads of paper into a trash can, quickly gaining major shooting skills. Over the scene, Skee-lo’s 1995 hit “I Wish” played. If you need a refresher, here you go:

Ahh, still fun. So anyway, I was in a mood to gripe-about-life-while-calling-it-wishing as well. I had a gynecologist appointment yesterday, and it went… well, I still am feeling some kind of way as I type this right now. In fact, I spent a good chunk of the day in a mood. Why, when I already have a myriad of health issues, do I have to worry about dismissive, condescending doctors, too?

And then, I got an attitude-check. Not from the Bible, not from some writings by C.S. Lewis or about St. Francis. Nope, I got checked by Freakonomics.

I’m not going to give it away, so you can listen to the podcast below, or read the transcripts here. Or scroll back up and listen to Skee-lo one more time. It’s all good.
