Pictures from Senegal
My good friend Kandi, now tavelling the world, shares these gorgeous pictures of Senegal on her Instagram page.
The African Renaissance Monument. Marks #senegal 50 years of #independence and stands as a sign of victory and respect for #emancipation of the #slaves and the #abolition of #slavery. I was told that the entire #monument is overplayed in #bronze and stands #higher than the #statueofliberty and the #jesus statue in #rio #brazil. #dakar #senegal #africa #blackhistorymonth #blackhistory #blacklove #freedom #befree #caribbean #usa #southamerica #europe #afrolatino #afrocaribbean #africanamerican #knowthyself

The Door of No Return. Given this #name because once the slave went through this #passage they boarded the slave boats and were never seen and never returned again. It was #surreal walking through this passage way and #knowing that many of our #ancestors walked these halls and out of this #doorway into what was #hell on #earth for them. The water you see is the #atlanticocean #isledegoree #goreeisland #dakar #senegal #africa #blackhistorymonth #ourhistory #caribbean #usa #europe #southamerica #blackhistory #roots #africanroots #black #blacklove #africanamerican #afrocaribbean #afrolatino #afroeuropean #reflections
This was the holding #cell for the #rebel #slaves. The majority of them died in here because they would get #pneumonia. I couldn’t bring myself to #enter any of the slave cells. I am #free and as a form #respect to my #ancestors and myself, I refuse to set foot in any #slavecell #jailcell or any cell. #personalconviction #isledegoree #goreeisland #dakar #senegal #africa #slavetrade #blackhistorymonth #black #history #caribbean #usa #europe #southamerica
The actual Slave House on the #isledegoree #goreeisland where many #Africans were brought to and #sold and sent #away #NEVER to see their families or #africa again. My heart was a bit heavy going here but I made it my point of duty to visit this #historical sight. It’s #important to know and #connect to your #history to #understand who you are and where you are heading. #dakar #senegal #africa #blackhistorymonth #knowthyself #usa #caribbean #southamerica #europe #learn #teach #grow
