East Of Eden

Some Coltrane & Rain.

More rain is in the forecast for the tri-state area. It's not raining yet, so I was about to make a quick morning trip to Starbucks for a iced coffee with soy milk when I decided to turn on the Keurig and some jazz and just chill.

Good Friday morning.

Disqus Disgust

To everyone who valiantly tried to leave a comment yesterday only to have Disqus gobble it into cyber oblivion or who received prompts (threats?) to start a Disqus account: I'm sorry. Disqus was having a REALLY bad day yesterday. I kept getting "Down for System Maintenance" error messages as the moderator.

Please let me know if there are any more weird hiccups today, and I'll have the webmaster (my brilliant hubby) look into it.

Holla Holla!

Despite my general dislike of Ja Rule's music/voice/rapping skills/career, I have "Holla Holla" stick in my head. I just posted this pic on Facebook:

That's my latest rankings for the "Free Run" in Wii Fit. Well, I can't run more than a few steps thanks to the CIDP, so that's my walking stats, which I can manage because once my balance starts to get whacky, I have plenty of fill-in-a-pinch balance bars- like the back of chairs. This is also the only way I can do lunges safely. I'd say hands down, my balance coordination deficiency is the most frustrating and disabling part of having CIDP for me. Thanks to IVIG, most of the pain is tolerable. But the fact that I am stumped by steps? Makes me want to pull my afro out.

Pesky Piskie Problems

Man, I cannot find those earrings for the life of me!

I have been doing some more thinking about the Episcopal Church's Presiding Bishop Katherine Jefferts Schori's bizarre sermon bashing St. Paul.

Gotta thank the Lord? Um, not so much.

In this uncomfortable exchange, CNN's Wolf Blitzer interviews an Oklahoma tornado survivor, asking her if she thanks the Lord for having made it through the storm:

Follow the Piper (on Twitter)?

In the wake of the awful tornado that leveled miles of homes, schools and hospitals and killed at least 24 people in Oklahoma, popular Reformed pastor John Piper sent out a tweet that left many confused, angered and even disgusted. From Nate Pyle:

Worse. Hermeneutics. Ever.

Facepalm. Worse hermeneutics. Ever. Really. Reading stuff like this makes me embarassed to say I attend an Episcopal parish. Yes, that was so embarassing, I literally felt a shiver pass down my spine. Think I'm being dramatic? Read on, from Anglican Ink:

The Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church has denounced the Apostle Paul as mean-spirited and bigoted for having released a slave girl from demonic bondage as reported in Acts 16:16-34 .

Six months.

Today marks six months since Joscelyne passed, and since I got all emo a little over a week ago, I'll skip that today and celebrate her memory. Here are some of her favorite songs:

So you want to start a church?

Just read a great article on starting a church. Great stuff to consider, from the Midwest Conservative Journal:

(1) Don’t reinvent the wheel. – Do you think worship should be beautiful?  Roman Catholics do a kickass liturgy and if the beauty of Rachmaninov’s setting of the Russian Orthodox Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom doesn’t scare you to death, then I hate to break it to you but you’re deaf.

Some Saturday Stuff- May 18th.

For the past four days, I feel I've been running on steam. Just blah. Not blech, but blah. I think it started when my IVIG treatment went wrong on Tuesday. I have tiny (i.e., bad) veins, but Melissa, my nurse, has amazingly been able to work with them on a weekly basis for the past fifteen months. Things started off fine. She put the IV in my left arm, and the drip was flowing nicely... until Zoe decided to tackle me, thus knocking the IV askew, despite it being taped securely. Try as she might, Mel couldn't get another vein to work, and half my meds had to be thrown out. She came yesterday, and was able to administer the final, unopened third of my dose, thank God. But it was like my spirit just never recovered. I haven't been mad or...

This little light of mine.

I made that candle label with my sister's picture yesterday. I've had a love affair with candles since 16, and in the wake of her death, I had taken to burning a purple colored one in her memory. Well, I burned that one right on out, and I realized, with Monday making six months since her passing, I wanted something a bit more personal. So, viola.

Z has been acting so abominably of late, I've taken to fantasizing of locking myself in the bathroom and screaming bloody murder. And then taking a nice long bath without my daughter stripping down and trying to jump in with me.

What dreams may come.

I woke up from a long nightmare this morning. In this dream, I was in my mother's house, sitting on the floor of the living room. Angry and sad that Joscelyne was dead. Angry and sad because I felt that only I truly cared anymore.

I got up and headed out to Starbucks. If I was going to be up, I mine's well be really up.
